Revitalising Roxburgh
MB Century is excited to announce the commencement of on-site works for the Roxburgh Power Station Turbine Rehabilitation Project. This significant project marks a new chapter for the original turbines installed and commissioned in the 1950s, which will undergo a major upgrade from Voith Hydro. The new runners, distributors, and associated equipment, all manufactured by Voith, will enhance the machine, resulting in more gigawatts on the grid each year and giving the Roxburgh Units a new lease on life. We are partnering with Voith to do the on-site work and deliver the project for Contact Energy. Over the next two years, our dedicated team will work together through 6-monthly outages to complete four refurbishments.
Project Manager, Jennifer McLean, highlights the strength and diversity of our team:
"Our MB Century team has been carefully curated by our Hydro Technical Specialist, Richard Yeoman, to create a wonderful balance of long-standing MB Century talent and local hires with a varied range of technical skills and experience. Diversity really makes for a well-rounded team here - and to resource this project with locals from the area is in line with our business strategy of establishing a permanent presence in the South Island. The project is currently in the ‘disassembly’ stage, with the machine being stripped down and meticulously measured for its as-found condition. These machines don't get stripped down to this extent very often, and we are proud to be the trusted contractor leading the on-site work. It's a high-profile piece of work for Contact Energy, with many of their employees having involvement. This really gives the project a ‘united’ feel. These strong relationships foster a culture of openness, collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and looking out for one another. It's great to see."
At MB Century, we excel at delivering our core offerings and providing high-quality services, and this project is a testament to our adaptability and solution-oriented, partnering approach. Our commitment to expanding into the South Island is evident here as well and we are excited to leverage some of our most valuable partnerships, demonstrating our collaborative approach to enable growth. Throughout this project, we remain dedicated to health and safety, applying our established frameworks and maintaining our excellent HSW&E records.
